About

Located behind Athens High School in Limestone County, this outdoor archery facility stands as a pioneering public range developed through a unique partnership between the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the city government, and the Archery Trade Association. The park offers distinct shooting areas tailored to different experience levels, with adult archers able to practice at known distance targets ranging from 15 to 50 yards, while younger shooters can use dedicated youth targets set at 5 to 20 yards. An elevated 12-foot platform gives bowhunters the chance to practice from realistic hunting heights at distances between 10 and 40 yards, helping them prepare for field conditions. The range operates during daylight hours only and requires users between the ages of 16 and 64 to possess a valid Alabama hunting, heritage, fishing, or wildlife management area license. Nonresidents over 16 need either a state hunting license or WMA license to use the facility. Visitors will find ample parking adjacent to the range, and the surrounding area includes a playground, pavilion, tennis courts, and a walking trail, making it a well-rounded recreational destination for the community.
