Papago Archery Range is a free, publicly owned outdoor facility located in the Papago Sports Complex near the intersection of East McDowell Road and North 64th Street in Phoenix, where Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Tempe meet. The range is open from sunrise until sunset or 7 PM, whichever comes first, and operates as a community resource maintained by the Papago Archery Association with support from its members. Distances are clearly marked out to 70 meters in both metric and imperial measurements, allowing archers of various skill levels to practice at their preferred distances.
The range offers comprehensive instruction through the Papago Archery Association, including beginner courses, private lessons, and specialized programs. The Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) and Adult Archery Program (AAP) provide weekly group lessons for archers ages eight and up, with both recreational and competitive tracks available. USA Archery certified instructors deliver training in all bow types—recurve, compound, and barebow—focusing on technique, safety, and etiquette.
While the range itself is free and open to the public, equipment availability depends on membership status. Club members have access to equipment including bows, arrows, stands, and bales during designated club hours on weekends, with affordable annual membership options starting at $100 for individuals. Outside of club hours, no equipment stands, target faces, or rentals are available to the public. The facility maintains a strong commitment to safety and inclusivity, hosting regular tournaments and pin shoots throughout the year while enforcing strict range rules to ensure a positive experience for all participants.
