Izaak Walton League of America Conservation Farm

The Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chapter of the Izaak Walton League operates a welcoming archery range at their Poolesville conservation farm that caters to both experienced archers and beginners. The facility features a large outdoor field range with four fixed bag targets positioned at 20, 30, 40, and 50 yards, along with an 80-yard bison 3D target. The 20 and 30-yard targets include dedicated broadhead sighting-in boards, and each distance contains two target bags, fixed shooting positions, bow hangers, and arrow holders. From mid-spring through late summer, the range opens additional 3D courses that wind through the surrounding Archery Woods, available to members and the public on weekends for a small fee.

The range offers comprehensive instruction through USA Archery-certified instructors and Range Officers who provide guidance to new archers. Youth archery equipment is available for children upon request, making the facility accessible to young shooters. The chapter also hosts a variety of events throughout the year including opening day shoots, competitions, and sight-in days. A signature program called Apollo Archery runs monthly from April through October, specifically designed to serve military members, veterans, first responders, and their families, offering both beginner instruction and adaptive opportunities for wounded warriors and disabled veterans. Membership in the Izaak Walton League is required for regular access to the range, though weekend public shooting on the 3D courses is available for a fee.
