About

Rube Powell Archery Range is a walking range located in Balboa Park's canyon setting, running parallel to Highway 163, and offers a forest-like atmosphere ideal for archery enthusiasts. The range features fourteen targets open year-round, with target distances ranging from 20 feet to 80 yards, plus a small practice range at the entrance with targets from 10 to 40 yards. The first open target is approximately a 5-10 minute walk from the entrance, located on the north side of the Cabrillo Bridge. Additional targets open during tournaments, which are held approximately twice monthly on the first and third weekends. The range is open from sunrise to sunset every day of the year, with public access available for $2.00 per archer, collected on an honor system to support range maintenance. The range exclusively accommodates traditional archery equipment—bows and arrows only—and prohibits crossbows and similar devices. San Diego Archers hosts 25 archery tournaments annually, with 23 held at Rube Powell, making it the primary tournament venue. When tournaments take place at Rube Powell, the sister Morley Field Archery Range remains open to the public. Equipment rental is available to visitors, and the San Diego Archers offer archery lessons and various competitive events throughout the year for both members and non-members.
