About

Nestled in the far-west end of Golden Gate Park, the Golden Gate Park Archery Range stands as America's oldest public archery range, a hidden gem tucked away from the main park attractions. This outdoor facility welcomes archers of all skill levels and operates completely free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis from sunrise to sunset. The range features ten marked shooting lanes, including two ADA-accessible options, along with a hillside challenge lane that offers varied terrain. Archers can practice at multiple distances—18 meters, 30 meters, 50 meters, 70 meters, and an impressive 90 meters—with classic hay bales available for recurve archers and synthetic targets suited for compound bows. Those seeking instruction can explore the range's archery classes, workshops, and citywide programs designed for beginners, families, and competitive archers. A nearby archery shop provides equipment rentals for those who don't bring their own gear. The range maintains strict safety protocols and closes on the first Saturday of each month from noon to 2:30 p.m. for maintenance. Visitors can also join volunteer work parties to help preserve this historic archery landmark.
