About
Rocky Mountain Archery is a family-owned and operated archery facility located in Fort Collins, Colorado, founded and owned by Stewart King, a certified USA Archery Level 4 NTS Coach with over 40 years of experience in the sport. The business caters to archers of all skill levels, from complete beginners to serious sportsmen and competitive target archers.
The facility features two distinct shooting areas. The main range consists of 28 lanes with target butts configured at 10 yards for novice archers and 20 yards for more experienced shooters. Additionally, the venue maintains a 5-lane side range equipped for distances up to 20 yards, primarily dedicated to private lessons, birthday parties, and custom bow tuning sessions. The facility operates as both an indoor range and pro shop, providing a comprehensive archery experience under one roof.
Rocky Mountain Archery serves as a full-service pro shop offering extensive inventory and services for compound bows, recurves, and crossbows. The shop stocks major archery brands including Mathews, Hoyt, Gold Tip, Easton, Victory, and numerous accessory manufacturers. Beyond retail sales, the facility provides professional bow services including draw length and weight adjustments, rest installation and alignment, sight installation, peep installation, quiver installation, and comprehensive bow tuning options. The shop also offers custom string work for both recurve and compound bows, with compound string purchases including a basic bow tune-up. Chronograph services and paper tuning are available to help archers optimize their equipment.
For those new to archery, the facility offers recurve bow rentals at $20 per person, which includes the range fee, a recurve bow with three arrows, an arm guard, and a paper target. Rental sessions include a mini-lesson covering safety rules, proper form, and aiming techniques, with staff providing guidance through the first several rounds of shooting. Rentals are limited to two-hour sessions and do not require reservations, though groups of three or more are encouraged to call 15 to 30 minutes ahead. The facility also offers private lessons for $75 per hour for individual instruction, with group rates available for up to four shooters.
The business hosts multiple competitive and recreational leagues throughout the year. The Youth League runs on Saturday mornings with separate age divisions, offering affordable participation at $12 per session with instructors present. The 3D Bowhunter League operates on Wednesday evenings during fall and winter months, featuring 30 different shots at foam animal targets from 5 to 30 yards, combining practice for hunters with recreational fun. The Target League meets Thursday evenings and focuses on precision shooting with NFAA standard targets at 20 yards, catering to competitive archers and those seeking tournament preparation.
Beyond league play, Rocky Mountain Archery accommodates birthday parties, group events, and team-building activities. These scheduled events start at $18 per shooter per hour with a minimum of five participants, with options for 90-minute or two-hour sessions at corresponding rates. Private rooms upstairs are available for $50 per hour to accommodate cake, presents, or meetings. The facility maintains range memberships offering unlimited range access for one month, six months, or one year at tiered individual and family rates.
The business operates Tuesday through Friday from 11 AM to 7 PM, Saturday from 11 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday from 12 PM to 5 PM, remaining closed on Mondays. A range fee of $9 per day grants all-day shooting access for those with their own equipment, with paper targets available at $1 each. The facility maintains professional sanitization protocols for all rental equipment after each use.
Customer reviews consistently praise the knowledgeable and patient staff, highlighting their ability to teach newcomers without making them feel uncomfortable or pressured. One reviewer noted the thorough safety instruction and individual feedback provided even during group sessions. Multiple reviewers emphasized how the welcoming environment and expert guidance helped them feel confident as beginners and encouraged them to continue with the sport. The facility has earned recognition as an ideal starting point for new archers while simultaneously serving experienced competitors and serious bowhunters.
