Hall's Arrow is New England's largest indoor archery range, located in Manchester, Connecticut. Opening its doors on December 19, 1964, it holds the distinction of being the first commercial indoor archery range in New England and the first to offer automatic target returns. The facility was designed by founder Art Hall, an accomplished archer and innovator who envisioned an overhead target system that would operate quietly while preserving arrow integrity.
The range features a comprehensive layout designed to accommodate archers of all skill levels. The facility includes two double lanes for testing and trying out bows, seven double lanes for practice and recreational shooting that accommodate two shooters per lane, and six double "walk-up" lanes. Additionally, there is a Virtual Reality BowHunting Challenge room that accommodates up to six archers shooting in sequence, allowing archers to hunt life-size animals filmed in their natural surroundings from various continents without leaving the facility. All lanes are separated by Plexiglas dividers with levers controlling target returns and distance settings up to twenty yards.
Beyond the shooting facilities, Hall's Arrow houses what the business describes as the largest showroom and inventory of leading archery products available. The facility allows customers to try out equipment before purchase and provides technicians to ensure proper setup and fitting. The business extends a no-charge service policy on most bow maintenance and service needs for customers.
Instruction is a cornerstone of the Hall's Arrow experience. The facility offers private lessons for beginners at $20 per half hour and advanced lessons at $30 per half hour, with specialized instruction available from Butch Johnson, an Olympic Gold medalist and member of five consecutive Olympic Archery Teams. First-time shooters ages 13 and older can receive a complimentary mini-lesson with hourly range fees, while younger children ages 8-12 must schedule an appointment before shooting. The business also operates the largest Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) program in the United States, conducted through USA Archery, with classes for both beginners and national champions, kept at a maximum of twelve students per class.
The staff includes highly qualified instructors and coaches, many with competitive tournament backgrounds and USA Archery certification. Roxanne Reimann, the range manager and lead JOAD coach, is an eight-time member of the USA Archery Team with a Silver Medal from the 2000 World Team Championship. The facility welcomes groups, schools, and camps with special pricing options available upon registration.
Hall's Arrow operates Monday through Friday from noon to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. (closed Sundays only April through July). Range rates include $12 per hour for archers with their own equipment and $15 per hour for those using range equipment on automatic target lanes, with walk-up range shooting at $8 per hour per archer.
