About

Baltimore Bowmen is a volunteer-run archery club nestled within Maryland's Gunpowder Falls State Park system in Glen Arm. Situated on approximately 65 acres of mature hardwoods with varied terrain that includes hills, flat wooded areas, and a stream, the facility offers a scenic setting for archery enthusiasts. The club operates three separate 3D courses plus a ten-target practice range located behind the clubhouse that remains open year-round. The practice range accommodates shots from bunny targets up to 80 yards and is the only range available to non-members at certain times. The three main courses—the Howard Hill range, the Fred Bear range with 18 shooting stations and a recently completed 12-target field archery range, and the Saint Charles range—each offer distinct challenges with varied shooting distances and realistic target placements throughout the wooded landscape.

Baltimore Bowmen offers introductory archery lessons held a couple of times monthly, typically on Sundays, taught by volunteer club members. Loaner equipment is provided during lessons, and there is no cost to participate, though donations are accepted to support the program. The club hosts several annual events including monthly 3D Fun Shoots and the Traditional Classic, a four-day family-friendly event held in May that attracts traditional archers from across the region and beyond.

Membership at Baltimore Bowmen costs $50 annually plus a one-time $40 initiation fee, with members expected to contribute to work parties and event maintenance. Visitors note the welcoming atmosphere and knowledgeable instruction, with some praising the variety of courses and reasonable pricing, while others highlight the beautiful wooded setting and challenging terrain that makes for engaging shooting experiences.
