X10 Archery Academy

X10 Archery Academy is a premier indoor archery education center located in Houston, Texas, operating as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization since 2014. Founded by USA Archery Level 4 NTS Coach Lynda Whitehead, the academy serves as the only nonprofit archery facility dedicated exclusively to archery education in the Greater Houston Area.

The facility operates as a private training range that does not accommodate walk-in shooters. Instead, X10 maintains a membership-based model designed to ensure a safe, high-quality experience for all archers. The academy requires valid government-issued photo identification for all participants and visitors and maintains strict safety protocols, utilizing two safety commands—"CLEAR" (range is hot and safe to shoot) and "PULL" (safe to walk down range to collect arrows)—to manage range operations. The facility emphasizes stringent safety standards, including proper shooting line positioning, arrow direction protocols, bow handling requirements, and procedures for removing arrows from strings when stepping off the line.

X10 offers multiple pathways for participation. Academy Members enjoy priority access and lane reservations through tiered membership levels (Shooter, Athlete, or Olympian Tier), while visiting members of USA Archery or other recognized archery associations can purchase 7-Day Passes for range access. New archers are introduced to the sport through a "Try Archery" session—a beginner-focused experience priced at $40 that includes brief instruction, use of matched club equipment (recurve bow and five arrows), at least one hour of shooting time, and information about the academy's programs and memberships. This introductory session is mandatory for first-time users of club equipment and those who have not visited in at least one year.

The academy provides comprehensive archery instruction through both group and private lessons led by USA Archery certified instructors and coaches ranging from Level 2 to Level 4 NTS (National Training System). Private lessons consist of 45 minutes of personalized coaching paired with 15 minutes of practice time, with all necessary equipment—including bows, arrows, arm guards, finger tabs, paper target faces, and exercise stretch bands—provided to participants. Recurring lessons are available for those seeking ongoing skill development, and specialized homework and at-home exercises are provided to support progress between sessions. The coaching staff includes award-winning instructors, former Team USA Members, Collegiate All-American Athletes, State Record Holders, National and State Champions, and International, National, and State Medalists.

X10 embraces multiple archery disciplines, including target, field, 3D, and traditional archery, ensuring accessibility for archers of all skill levels and interests. The academy welcomes archers of all ages, from children as young as 12 years old to seniors, though specialized assessment is conducted for children under 8 years old to ensure they meet essential safety and comprehension standards.

Beyond range access and lessons, X10 offers an extensive array of community programs and educational opportunities. The academy hosts Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) and American Archery Program (AAP) classes, as well as GAP/JGAP training. It supports Scholastic 3D National Association for Shooting Sports Programs (NASP) and JROTC certifications, and partners with local school districts to provide physical education (PE) credits through archery instruction. Homeschool classes, youth-only and adult-only classes, summer camps, and life skills programs that integrate archery with personal development such as meditation, breathwork, nutrition education, and strength training are available. The academy also operates as an official USA Archery Club and maintains full SafeSport compliance, with all coaches undergoing background screening and USA Archery certification.
